ArenaNet revealed Guild Wars 3 on June 5, 2026 at Summer Game Fest, then followed up with a setting post on June 11 and a business model post on June 16. This page lists only what the studio and verified press have confirmed, with a source on every point.
ArenaNet announced Guild Wars 3 on June 5, 2026 at Summer Game Fest with a debut trailer. It is the studio’s first new Guild Wars game since Guild Wars 2 launched in 2012.
Source: Game Informer↗The game is coming to PC, Steam, and PlayStation 5. This is the first Guild Wars game to release on a home console.
Source: GameSpot↗The first beta test is set for Fall 2027. Players can sign up at guildwars3.com and wishlist on Steam and PlayStation to get a chance to play it.
Source: guildwars3.com↗There is no release date yet. ArenaNet says more on pricing, beta tests, and the release date will follow later in 2026 and into 2027.
Source: ArenaNet press release↗Guild Wars 3 is set in Orr, a region of Tyria described as "a vast wilderness frontier imbued with the world’s magic," over a thousand years before the events of the original Guild Wars.
Source: ArenaNet press release↗Players take the role of a Vaelwarden, "a guardian of the land of Orr, protector of the people and spirits that call Orr home."
Source: guildwars3.com↗Each player has a Seeker, which the studio describes as both a connection to the spirits of Orr and a mount.
Source: ArenaNet press release↗Movement is built around momentum. The official site calls it "a one-of-a-kind movement system that transfers your momentum between modes of travel," letting you glide, ride, leap, and wall run across Orr.
Source: guildwars3.com↗Combat pairs action RPG fighting with Guild Wars build making, rewarding skill use, positioning, and movement. It is designed to play well on both a controller and a keyboard.
Source: guildwars3.com↗Guild Wars 3 will be buy to play at release with no subscription fee. In a June 16, 2026 post, studio head Colin Johanson also ruled out battle passes, calling them "a form of subscription fee, hidden inside."
Source: ArenaNet: Our Guild Wars Philosophy↗No pay to win. Johanson wrote that "it's never okay in a MMO for players who spend money to have an unfair advantage." Paid items are limited to cosmetics, account services, and convenience.
Source: ArenaNet: Our Guild Wars Philosophy↗A new Hall of Monuments will connect Guild Wars 2 accounts to Guild Wars 3, rewarding time already invested in Guild Wars 2, the way the original Hall of Monuments carried Guild Wars 1 accomplishments forward.
Source: ArenaNet: Our Guild Wars Philosophy↗The story starts before the First Guild War, in an era when the human gods are still in the world. ArenaNet says "the former God of Death has been recently usurped" and the Order of the Vael is on the back foot.
Source: ArenaNet: Stepping into Ancient Orr↗ArenaNet built "a version of Orr that's more layered, more detailed, and more interconnected than anything we've done before," with fewer loading screens than previous Guild Wars games.
Source: ArenaNet: Stepping into Ancient Orr↗Orr is the starting point, not the whole game. ArenaNet says "Orr is where we're beginning this journey, not where it ends" and plans to explore more of Tyria in this era.
Source: ArenaNet: Stepping into Ancient Orr↗Johanson places Guild Wars 3 "near the middle of the MMO spectrum," between Guild Wars Reforged's smaller team focus and Guild Wars 2's large scale open world play.
Source: ArenaNet: Our Guild Wars Philosophy↗“Guild Wars 3 is an epic world that is both beautiful and fun to explore, where the joy of movement is powered by your character’s momentum, and combat will usher in an entirely new type of MMO experience.”
ArenaNet has not shared a launch date, the box price, the profession or class list, the game engine, or how the new Hall of Monuments rewards actually work. It says more on beta tests and release timing will come later in 2026 and into 2027. Anything beyond the sourced points above is not confirmed.
